Registration Form & Enrollment Agreement       Rules & Reminders

REGISTRATION OF NEW STUDENTS
Applications for enrollment are accepted throughout the year. Beginning classes are formed in August. The school reserves the right to refuse registration when the classes are full and to cancel registration for disciplinary reasons or other just cause. Classes are large enough to be comfortable but limited in size so that each student receives individual attention.

CLASS SCHEDULES
For our class schedule please call the studio at (865) 982-8463
• Students ages 3-6 are placed in classes according to age. All others are placed in classes by the director and faculty. These placements are based on a variety of factors, which include maturity, ability, talent, and experience.

TUITION
Tuition is due the first class of each month. To avoid a late payment fee, tuition should be paid by the tenth of the month. The monthly rate reflects a substantial discount over single lessons. Monthly tuition is computed on the entire year and is the same each month even if shortened by holidays. There are no refunds on tuition. If a student discontinues classes, one month's notice must be given to the teacher or office manager in writing. If payment for the year is paid in advance, there is no refund if a student discontinues.

ATTENDANCE
Classes begin in August and continue through May. Follow the Maryville City Schools calendar for holidays - Fall break, Thanksgiving weekend, Winter and Spring break. If Maryville City Schools are closed for snow or bad weather, the dance school will be closed and classes made-up. VMSD will be open for Monday holidays and in-service days.
• Absence for illness may be made up within 30 days. Absences for other reasons may be made up at the teacher's discretion. Allowances may be arranged for extended illness. No refunds are made if the student does not attend classes or drops mid-month. Arrive on time and in proper dress. VMSD cannot be responsible for students brought too early or not picked up on time.
• All visitors must have prior permission to observe the first class of the month.

PROPER ATTIRE
It is the policy of Van Metre School of dance for students to wear appropriate attire to and from class. A cover- up (skirt, pants, tee-shirt) over the leotard and tights is necessary. Street shoes are to be worn to and from class. Dancing shoes are to be worn only in the studio. Students do not chew gum during class.
• Ballet attire includes black leotards, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes with elastic sewn on. Young dancers will not be allowed to wear skirts or attached skirts to class. Dancers en pointe may wear skirts with their teacher's approval. Hair must be pulled back and up for all classes. White tee shirts, black tights and ballet shoes are appropriate for the male dancer.
• Jazz and Modern students wear leotards and footless or stirrup tights. The proper shoe will be advised after class begins. Bare feet for modern.
• Kinderdance and Tap attire for young children are black leotards, pink tights and tap shoes. Creative movement attire for young children are black leotards, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. White tee shirts, black shorts, and black ballet shoes are appropriate for the young male dancer.
Students who do not dress appropriately for class will not be allowed to participate in class but will be permitted to observe.

COSTUMES FOR STUDENT RECITAL
Each student will purchase his or her own costume for the spring recital. A non-refundable down-payment is due with your October tuition. The remaining balance will be due in January to ensure that your May recital costume arrives on time. If taking more than one discipline, a down payment will be due for each costume ordered. Recitals will be held in late May in a theater.

MARYVILLE COLLEGE STUDENTS - COURSE CREDIT
College students may receive one-hour credit per semester by taking two class lessons a week.
